About Music General
Since 1979, Music General has been a dance studio committed to the philosophy that a dancer’s education should consist of precise, technical training and a chance to grow, be inspired and to perform as an artist should. Many dancers will tell you that the benefits of dance go way far beyond fitness and arts awareness.

"I have been traveling up to Music General in Brainerd from St. Paul for five years because everyone there has been so generous and welcoming to me. I also see in Sue Kuhn, Mabel Tamasy, and the entire staff at Music General a commitment to excellence in the opportunities offered to students. The staff at Music General communicates their values in ways that nurture students to become responsible adults. There is a clear set of expectations enunciated to the student dancers at Music General regarding hard work, discipline, and commitment. Sue Kuhn’s straight forward dealing and commitment to bringing in the best talent to work with students pays big dividends in the competition arena."

At Music General we know that some of a child’s very basic developmental skills can be learned through dance. Dancing is fun; it gets the mind thinking and is a positive vehicle for developing problem solving, focusing, listening, self-discipline and team working skills. Young children learn best through movement; through dance they will not only learn an art-form but will also learn the skills that will assist in making them successful in all aspects of their lives.

"We personally chose the Music General program because of the discipline and structure. The level of structure in the classes is awesome-my girls learn from different teachers in different dancing areas and they love the variety-Music General teaches my girls discipline-meaning that they have to work hard and really listen and apply what is being taught to them-it not only benefits the child, but it also makes the child want to perform at the level the Music General is known. Music General has set a high standard for dancing, and because of that, my girls know what is expected of them-and they love it and know that it is worth it."

A good dance education can also be beneficial in building a child’s self-esteem and social skills. The most difficult, yet most valuable lesson Music General will help teach your child is to achieve success through hard work. We invite you to join the Music General family and hope that our love for dance will soon be yours.

"We joined Music General after attending one of their Spring Reviews and were extremely impressed. It is now 4 years later and our daughters couldn't love the studio more. Miss Amy has been a wonderful teacher and our girls cannot wait to attend class each week. Music General has something to offer for any age group and skill level. We are so lucky to have such an outstanding program in the Brainerd Area.
Thanks for all your hard work!"

"We joined Music General in 1994 and had the great pleasure to be part of this wonderful extended family for 15 years. My daughter loved to dance early on and never waivered as she grew. Though she tried basketball, swimming and track, her heart was always in her dance. Sue and the other talented teachers gave her the best dance education she could possibly have here in the Lakes Area. The many special professionals that grace our studio come in quietly but leave a great mark. These trained professionals give the dancers an opportunity to see and learn from the very best. Dance has given my daughter so many wonderful qualities: she is confident, hard working, self disciplined, poised and an excellent time manager which are all important qualities in life. Being able to learn and perform in many different styles of dance has allowed her to easily transition to the 'adult world' and maintain her love of dance. She now takes 'fun' dance classes in the cities, continues to dance at her college as well as teaches other little dancers just like her. I cannot fully express the appreciation I have for Music General and we will always feel like we are part of the bigger MG family! Thank you!
